Borag thungg, earthlets!!
Well, that was a weekend of combined excellent giggery and domestic tribulation…
Friday night at O’Neill’s was possibly the bonkers-iest yet, very lively indeed. A nice appreciative audience, and only a handful of the more hopelessly intoxicated youngsters had to be gently removed from the premises…
I must confess to having been somewhat distracted by things at home, though. Our house has had a fairly long-standing minor roof leak, and the repair process involved removing all the tiles on one side in order to replace the felting and battening and some window seals.
Unfortunately, we had only got as far as the “removing all the tiles” stage when Storm Amy struck. So, when I messaged home between sets at the gig to see how the temporary tarps we’d put on to cover it were holding up, I was sent lots of photos of buckets filling up, and a video clip of water running off a light fitting…
Still, there was nothing to be done but to leave the home crew to manage things as best they could, and play the second set.
Finally, when I got home, the rain had pretty much stopped – full marks to youngest son for staying up all night to make sure buckets were emptied as the residue trickled through the ceilings – and during the course of Saturday our guys managed at least to get new felting and battening on; hopefully we’ll get it all finished and sealed up by midweek.
Do not pray for rain in the meantime.
After a week or two of drying out, we just have a lot of ceilings and plasterwork to repair and repaint. Bah.
Personally, I hate painting ceilings, but if anyone would like to come and stay at our upcoming “art and mindfulness wellbeing retreat for creatives” for a few days, it’s only £500 per person – and we’ll happily provide the necessary bucket of white emulsion and brushes.
Anyway – domestic inconveniences aside, Saturday night at the Lord Raglan was as much fun as ever – always nice to get a big hug from boss lady Michelle when we walk in. And when we leave, and several other times in between. And somebody bought our drinks, for us too. Recommended.
Coming up this week, a Thursday jaunt to another old favourite
Thursday 9th – Royal Oak, Chipping Sodbury
Hopefully, by Thursday, I will no longer be constantly fearfully eyeing the sky for signs of rain clouds. But even if I am, we’ll be indoors, and it’ll be dark, so I won’t be able to see them, so actually I shouldn’t really be distracted at all. I’ll have to find another excuse for missing chord changes, I suppose…
