Revellers

03-02-2025 – Revelry

Yowsa!

Well, we hope you all had a fun weekend as we did.

Saturday night, as moths to a flame, we were drawn to the beacon of revelry that is the Old Mill in sunny Portishead, the undisputed jewel of the South West, with gallivanting intent.

And gallivant we most certainly did. For some reason (known only to sound techs) the sound that evening was notable for its sparkling clarity and definition – either that, or I’d just turned my guitar up a bit too much.

Joyfully lacking in sparkling clarity and definition were the crowd, whose performance during the first half was dominated by some increasingly unstable teenage ladies, who managed to not quite fall over but I could have sworn they were going to an absolute record number of times.

By the time we started the second set, these individuals had subsided somewhat (a bunch of lightweight kids, eh?) and the floor was taken over by a clearly more experienced crew of revellers, who were an absolute delight. By the time we got to the last number, Abby had to leave her position centre stage to make way for the magnificent array of excitable ladies joyfully trading solos with me with their inflatable guitars.

Apparently, this entire episode was maliciously filmed by our lovely friend Hot Angie – I’ve been promised a copy, and it’s not impossible this could end up online, go viral and be the start of our collective career as TikTok influencers. I’m not entirely sure what a TikTok influencer does, but apparently, it enables you to avoid such tiresome things as getting a job, contributing to society, and having self-awareness. It also leads me neatly to my favourite joke of the day: –

“Have you seen my TikTok?”

“It’s called a WATCH. Honestly, how old are you…?”

Anyways – another gig coming up this weekend: –

Saturday 8th- Lord Raglan, Nags Head Hill
Oh, they do like a bit of fun in here! Particularly if it’s one of Michelle’s Dildo Bingo nights. Which, I have to say, I rather hope it’s not. Although I would be intrigued to find out what the bingo caller says – “Two little ducks” for “22” could easily go wrong, and I dread to think what happens between 68 and 70…

Anyhoo – that’s your lot for now, do try to come out to gig if you get a chance – it really is rather good fun…
