Giving it large

22-09-2025 – Giving It Large

Yoho ahoy!

Well, after last weekend’s respite from gigging, we’re back under the cosh.

The previous Saturday’s jaunt to O’Neill’s down in town was the liveliest yet, I think. Lots of jollity, and we were particularly pleased to see our favourite Tina Turner impersonator giving it large (as I believe the youngsters these days are saying) on the dancefloor.

In fact, everybody (including us) seemed to be having a marvellous time, with the notable exception of one chap who spent the entire evening standing right in front of Stuart’s drumkit, scowling and occasionally “informing” us that the drums were a bit too loud compared to the vocals.

Having confirmed that he was not, in fact, a professional sound engineer, we tried explaining that, yes, if you stick your head in the drum kit, that’s what you’d expect. On the other hand, if you’d stuck your head in the vocal PA speakers, you’d probably be complaining that the vocals were too loud.

This received a grunt, and then he stayed in the same spot and carried on scowling. Well, if it made him happy…

Coming up this weekend – a novelty double header…

Fri 26th – Cat & Wheel, Cheltenham Road
One of our favourite Bristol gigs – cosy and lively at the same time, it’s a rare night when somebody isn’t up on the tables dancing. And also, as I recall, they have a “free drink for the band” policy…

Sat 27th – Black Horse, Taunton
Down in the darkest depths of Zummerzet, we’ve not played this one before, and, since our Abby is otherwise engaged for the evening, we have once again secured the titanium-voiced services of our original AUF chanteuse, Suzi. The show must go on, after all…

…And that’s about it for now. We’ll keep y’all posted….
