Jam

02-08-2024 – Jam

Hello tiddlypeeps!

I’ll keep this one fairly short – it’s currently a nice Sunday afternoon, and having just finished my chores for the day, I’m keen to slope off and sit in the garden for an hour or so* of doing absolutely nothing.

Also, of course, I don’t want to distract anyone from watching World Sports Day, which I believe is currently underway in Paris.

We can report on a pleasant evening spent in the Oak on Thursday, followed by a very entertaining Saturday night at the Good Intent in Broomhill. I’ll be honest, based on the previous time we played here, we weren’t expecting much; and it seemed our expectations were right, as we finished setting up and there were less than a dozen folks in the bar.

But, what a less-than-dozen they were! Even our warm-up got a standing ovation. (By tradition, whilst waiting for our singer to arrive, all musicians must improvise an instrumental piece, lasting between three and twenty-seven minutes. By law, this must be a 12-bar blues jam in 6/8 time, and must continue until everybody else gets pissed off with the guitarist widdling away, and simply stops. We do this not because we necessarily want to, but Them’s The Rules.).

Once we started the actual set, it was non-stop cavorting all the way through, with enough singing along and bellowing of cheery insults to constitute a full pub’s worth of punters.

Coming up this week, another regular venue for jollity: –

Friday 2nd August – The Pack Horse, Lawrence Hill
Great fun in this nice little bikers’ pub; we’re making sure we bring our toy box, since last time I forgot it and was gently reprimanded** by the delightful yet slightly terrifying manageress Empress Angie – also it’s her chap Liam’s birthday, so there might even be cake. And probably shots. Oh, well, what’s the worst that could happen?

*or, at least, until Dem finds me….

** I say “gently reprimanded”. Because “death threat” sounds legally actionable, doesn’t it…
